Follow along on a solo overnight mini-expedition from the town of Valdez, Alaska to Shoup Bay/Glacier and back. Did this trip in the beginning of January 2023, so not much daylight, but enough to get there and back. Roughly 12 miles each way. Gourmet fillet mignon dinner, wildlife, pristine wilderness, silence, and snowy paddling made for an epic way to start the new year! Enjoy!

Winter Kayaking – Valdez, Alaska to Shoup Bay

Skiing a couple runs of Black Bear Bowl (Second stop on the bus to the top) of Moose Mountain ski area in Fairbanks, AK.<br /><br />Moose Mountain Ski Resort is interior Alaska’s largest alpine ski and snowboard area. With 750 acres, over a mile wide and a mile long, and 1300 vertical feet, “the Moose” has miles of long gentle cruisers and steep, narrow black diamond runs that can challenge the best skiers and boarders.<br /><br />Moose Mountain has many south facing runs, allowing for sunny skiing above the inversion every day of the season. The average temperatures are 20-30 degrees warmer than the flats of the Tanana Valley, and the views of the Alaska Range to the south and the White Mountains to the north are inspiring. <br /><br />I skied at SkiLand in Fairbanks for one day before this, but the Moose was my favorite resort of the three in Fairbanks. The bus is a nice touch to keep warm for the ride up rather than sitting on a chairlift at -10 degrees. Highly recommend this mountain if you're in the area.

Some buds out for an early season pow shredding day off. This Florida boy is beginning to get his feet under him on the snow! <br />The opportunities for backcountry skiing here in Valdez, Alaska are incredible! There is so much terrain that is, for the brief summertime, enshrouded in alder bushes and devils club so dense, you wonder if you're destined to serve a lifetime sentence in her gnarled arms.<br />I'm still but an amateur camera operator and this trial run allowed me to realize I need to flip the GoPro on the chest mount so you aren't looking at just my skis the whole time. Used what footage I had to practice editing. Enjoy!

A bunch of friends out for a Packrafting paddle of Keystone Canyon in Valdez, Alaska at the end of October. Ice, wind, and freezing conditions led us wild folks to do it two days in a row!
